Vol. I - Chapter 9

Jude Dragneel is a mage of Fairy Tail, and a member of Team Storm Slayers. He is the son of Natsu and Lucy Dragneel.

Appearance

At his introduction, Jude was a nine year old boy with messy blond hair and sharp green eyes. Since then, little has changed from his appearance. As he's aged, he has grown in height as well as size. During his time training for the Grand Magic Games, Jude did build a healthy amount of muscles, and grew a few inches taller.

Still a young boy, Jude pays little attention to his fashion and clothing, most of his outfits assembled or at least purchased by his mother or hand-me-downs from his older brother Liddan. When he was younger, he would often dress in shades of red (Liddan's colors) but as he grew more, he began to adopt more blue outfits, becoming his signature color over time.

During the grand magic games, Jude wore a blue sleavless tunic top and a pair of gray pants. Around his waist was a thin tan leather wrapping to secure his tunic. For the duration of the games, Jude was allowed to wear his father's scarf after fighting him for it at the preliminary portion of the games. He wore it throughout the week, but returned it after.

Following the games, Jude underwent a heavy transformation as a result of a mutation give to him by Hanna at Howl Caedo. Due to the Ichor give to him to heal his wounds, the demon seed dormant within Jude was ignited, resulting in him growing a pair of horns on his head. The horns remained on his head following the dissolvement of Howl Caedo, Hanna working to reverse the effect of the Ichor. However, the horns remain on Jude's head until further notice.

Jude was gifted a bandana by his sister as a means to hide the horns when he'd like.

Personality

Although Jude was very sturdily the annoying and rowdy younger sibling at first meeting, he was revealed to be far more sensitive than he initially led on. At the age of nine, Jude was remarkably insecure and lonely. Coming at the tail end of the Next Generation, there were few kids around his age in the guild. Unlike his older siblings, his friends were slim picking.

This resulted in Jude feeling starved for attention. Being the youngest of four, he was constantly trying to get others to pay attention to him, in the worst ways possible. He would act obnoxiously and pick fights with his older brother or people in the guildhall, resulting in him often getting grounded and forced to stay home while his family went on jobs.

In reality, Jude looked up to his older siblings, primarily Liddan, but he never had a healthy outlet to express these feelings. His relationship with Marigold helped open up that faucet, as she was happy to give him attention. Serving as his go to babysitter, he would often spend time with her at her house, opening up to her and Liddan in the process.

Jude finally began to settle at the arrival of his first true friend, Molly Rose. Though he at first acted irritated when Molly would cling to him, he was geniunely happy to have someone who enjoyed his company just as much as he did her's. Their friendship mellowed Jude out in many ways, and his bad habits subsided, allowing for a stronger relationship to build between him and his siblings.

In time, Jude went from the rowdy younger sibling to the voice of reason among his chaotic older siblings. His role in his family became rather strange when his younger siblings were born as he went from being the baby to the middle child all in one go. However, he was quick to adapt to his role as big brother as seen in his Christmas adventures with the triplets.

As Jude grew older, he revealed himself to be a smart, considerate, and sensetive young man. He is compassionate, though still childish as he feuds with Rowen Conbolt in more than one ocassion. However, he is through and through a true friend and ally. He isn't without his shortcomings, often acting on impulse and allowing his feelings to get the better of him. However, his impuslivity is more a learned trait from his older siblings, primarily Liddan who he idolizes.

However, his strong heart is both his strength and weakness. When Molly is taken, Jude reacts intensely, refusing to listen to reason and acting irresponsibly with the intent of saving her. When his own actions fail to help, he is left feeling defeated. However, Molly herself explains to him that she no longer expects him to be her hero, simply her friend. Regardless of these blunders, his overwhelming compassion is what allowed Cinder to reconnect with her family.

All in all, Jude doesn't give up on people, even when they've given up on themselves. He'll always believe in the good of people, and he's learned that he should do the same for himself.

Synopsis

History

Jude was born much later than most of the other Fairy Tail children, leaving him with fewer options for friends and a dozen or so older sibling (or sibling-like) individuals that found him annoying and unpleasant to be around.

He is six years apart from his closest sibling, Layla, and ten years apart from his oldest sibling, Nashi. His only options for friends growing up were Rowen (Wendy's son) and Gillian (Cana's daughter), who were each within two years of him. Unfortunately, neither of them took a liking to Jude, Rowen seeing him as a competitor and Gillian finding them both annoying (as she was the oldest of the bunch).

Finding himself rather isolated, Jude became more and more desperate for attention from his siblings which resulted in him feeling more dejected as his older siblings ignored him. He grew bitter and eventually, by the time he was nine, would avoid going to the guild as he'd come to the resolution no one there wanted him to be there in the first place.

Thought Master Arc

After Lucy receives a letter from the Love and Lucky regarding her book, she calls Marigold over to watch Jude for the day she and Natsu are gone with Team Natsu.
